ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño will develop the 12,000 m2 museum installation in a contract worth €11 million
The Egyptian Ministry of Culture and Besix Orascom Joint Venture have chosen ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño for the technical museographic development of four of the exhibit halls at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, in a contract worth €11 million.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD) will be responsible for the technical and museographic development of 12,000 square metres, distributed over four museum areas, in which APD will incorporate a variety of exhibition elements, such as graphics, models, life-sized reproductions and exhibition and staging lighting to support the story told by the museum and contextualize the archaeological pieces.
APD will also conduct a three-dimensional scan of Tutankhamun’s outer burial chamber, to provide an exact digital model of the original that can be turned into a physical reproduction for future display at the museum.
The Grand Egyptian Museum will become the largest archaeological museum in the world, housing 45,000 pieces (of which 25,000 have never been exhibited before), showing the history of Ancient Egypt from Prehistory to the Greco-Roman period. The museum is expected to receive over five million visitors a year (around 15,000 a day).
The museum is located two kilometres from the Giza pyramids and will occupy 50 hectares of land. In Egypt, ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño has been responsible for the “Sound & Light Show”, projected on the Abu Simbel Temple since 1999.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, founded in 1992, specialises in the design and implementation of museums, exhibitions, events and multimedia shows. APD is committed to the concept of “Cultural Engineering”, which consists of using the most advanced sustainable visual and sensory technology to transmit the history, tradition and values of a specific location.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño is also the largest company in Europe in the museum and exhibitions sector, with emblematic projects such as The National Museum of Oman, the House of European History in Brussels, Belgium, The Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, the Msheireb Museums in Qatar, and the Al-Shaheed Park Museums in Kuwait.
